Construction of a Four-Season Room

We’ve talked a lot about the benefits of building a four-season room, especially so you can enjoy the outdoors during the cooler winter months. Today we wanted to show you the work that goes into building a four-season room– Outdoor Environments’ style.

This the Season

Earlier in the week we showed you one of our favorite ways to get the exterior of your home ready for the holidays. Today we wanted to share some other festive holiday outdoor décor ideas to get you and your family in the holiday spirit.

Breaking out the holiday décor at Thanksgiving gives us just the right amount of time to enjoy the holiday season as well as the lights. We also love to see a well decorated mailbox. Don’t you think the pinecones and mistletoe shown below is picture perfect?

This below photo, also from Better Homes and Gardens, features a line up of “simple shepherd’s hooks with oversize red jingle bells.”

What are some ways you decorate your outdoor living space during the holidays?

The Durability of Trex

At Outdoor Environments we work with all types of materials when building outdoor living spaces for our clients. One option that we offer our clients is Trex, the country’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative decking, railing and fencing products. Trex products not only offer superior durability, but it helps eliminate plastic waste. Trex uses over a million pounds of recycled and reclaimed plastic and waste wood each year when creating their products. Trex alone recycles over 1.3 billion grocery bags annually.

If you decide to use Trex products for your outdoor environment you can relax in knowing that your deck won’t rot, warp or splinter. You can even rejoice in knowing that staining and painting the surface is no longer necessary, the product holds on to its great look.

Great Porches for Entertaining

We love creating outdoor spaces for our clients that can be multi-functional. Porches are great because they can be used for entertaining friends, relaxing after a long day at work, a place for the kids to cool off from summer’s heat… the list is endless. We recently found some great ideas for porches on the My Home Ideas site. Here are a few we like:

In this inside out style, a clever pass-through leads to an outdoor kitchen with all the necessities, including a sink, grill, and under counter storage. The barn doors allow the owners to close the area off completely when the weather doesn’t cooperate with outdoor plans.

Screened porches are a great ways to bridge the gap between the indoors and outdoors.  They also extend the living area of the home to accommodate guests, as well as serve as an extra kitchen.

The indoor kitchen in this screened cabana includes a professional grade grill, draft beer dispenser, and a warming drawer. With indoor and outdoor seating, as well as the small pool and firepit, this porch is the ultimate place for entertaining all year long!

Check out My Home Ideas to see the rest of their favorite porches for entertaining. Find something inspirational? Let us know so we can help create the porch of your dreams!

This space above is one of my favorites, I love how the  mounted shovel brings the whole room together.

This above room doesn’t even look like it belongs outdoors.  It reminds me of something you’d see at a resort in South Beach.

The mixed use of style of furniture in this above photo caught my eye.  I love the look of the wooden bench with these garden chairs.

Great Ideas for your Deck Decor!

One big mistake that homeowners often commit is over-looking their decks and patios.  Decks are very important to the design of a home.  You should think of your deck or patio as another room in your home, just outdoors.  Adding some visual appeal to your deck can tremendously increase your backyard experience!

Midwest Living created “10 Ideas to Dress Up Your Deck.”  The list of ideas provide you with great inspiration to get started on your home’s deck.

Here are a few tips from the list provided by Midwest Living.

1. Focus on Furniture

When decorating your deck, start with the furniture.  These pieces will take up the most space and should be used as focal points.  Using a minimal amount of furniture  is a great way to maximize your outdoor living space.  The idea is to design, not clutter, your backyard escape.

2. Get Creative with Cushions

Pillows are a great addition to your outdoor living spaces.  Choosing multi-purpose pillows that are suitable for chairs or for sitting on the deck itself can stretch your dollars very far!  Use your cushions to tie in the design elements of your deck.

3. Add Some Greenery

Not only do plants add a splash of color to your deck, they provide privacy from your nearby neighbors.  Getting plants that are at least 5 ft. tall can act as a privacy screen for your deck.  Place the plants on the edge of your deck to get the full privacy affect.

4. Splash Some Color

There are several ways to add color to your deck.  The patterns and fabrics in your furniture are great starts for color.  The color scheme can be tied in through plants, painted terra-cotta plant pots, and wall art.  Personalize your deck with beautiful splashes of color.

Don’t let your deck or patio go unnoticed.  A little bit of design can go a long way!
